Description

Salvia Officinalis Purpurea is a low-maintenance herb garden sub shrub boasting aromatic oblong foliage with a fuzzy texture. Young leaves are flushed with purple, turning grey-green as they mature. Terminal racemes of small blue-purple flowers bloom in summer, crowning salvia plants in colour.

These highly scented plants are ideal herb plants for garden beds and borders but they are also a great option for growing fresh herbs in pots. Salvia is the perfect addition to any herb planter.

Commonly known as purple sage, these garden plants have plenty of culinary uses. Purple sage is often added to stews and casseroles as well as for flavouring stuffing and sausages. Its distinct flavour complements meat and poultry well.

Purple sage is easy to care for, largely looking after itself in the right conditions. It prefers a sunny spot in light well-draining soil. Sage is drought-tolerant, so doesn’t need frequent watering. Prune in spring to promote fresh bushy growth.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.
