Description
A herby subshrub, rarely more than 1m tall, with tiny flowers, followed by small, red fruits in a papery husk. Withania somnifera is widely distributed over Africa and Asia and popular in traditional medicine and as an aphrodisiac. The plant and its root contain a number of alkaloids and steroidal lactones. Ashwagandha prefers full sun and fairly dry conditions and has low to moderate water needs.
