Japanese Painted Fern

Description

Very elegant fern with deeply cut silver fronds which are shaded with purple and with pronounced burgundy mid-ribs. It is deciduous so remove the old foliage in the winter. Plant in partial or full shade in moist but well drained, neutral to acid soil, and mulch well in winter to protect the roots. Slow spreading by rhyzomes. Height 30cm (1ft), spread 45 – 100cm (1.5 – 3ft).
