Grown for the spicy aromatic seeds, to use in curries and with red meat. Dried seeds store well. Fragrant leaves can also be used to flavour dishes. For outdoor sowing
When March to June.
Where In the growing position.
How Sow thinly, cover lightly with fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. Seedlings appear 14-21 days.
Care When large enough thin to 20cm apart.
Harvest June to October, once seed heads have started to turn light brown. Cut plants and dry in an airy room. After drying shake out the seeds. Use some plants for leaves only, plants with too many leaves removed produce less seed. Plants can also be grown indoors all year round, for leaf only.
