Description

Lavandula Angustifolia are low-growing shrubs with compact size and aromatic foliage that will adorn your garden throughout the year. These are native to the Mediterranean region used widely for their beauty, fragrance and culinary use. Munstead is a beautiful lavender variety with striking purple flowers and aromatic evergreen leaves. It is excellent for containers and makes a special addition to a herb garden.

Also known as the English Lavender, Munstead is robust and short in size. It blooms small purple flowers on dense spikes throughout the summer. The new flowers are light purple in colour and mature into deeper shades. These flowers create a stunning contrast when backed by grey-green leaves of Lavender, attracting bees and butterflies. The sweet scent of the leaves makes Munstead a charming garden plant.

Lavender plants thrive in fertile soil that is slightly alkaline but regularly drained. They dislike water-logged soils that can damage the roots severely. Plant them in a sunny location where they can receive full sun during most of the day. They do not hesitate to perform even in partially shady areas in a garden.

Since Munstead lacks a woody structure, it might be less hardy in extreme weather conditions. It develops a strong deep root system that allows it to withstand long dry periods. Trim back the main shoots only after flowering, protecting the old wood. Lavender Munstead is an easy to grow plant that will thrive in your herb garden.

Plant it with other flowering perennials in borders or group it in a herb mix. Its compact size makes it suitable for garden pots especially on a patio, where its pleasant fragrance can be enjoyed.
