Description

Countless pink flowers cover this ornamental shrub in its heyday. Malus toringo ‘Scarlett’ is a small tree or large shrub that can reach a stature height of up to 4m growing in an upright habit. It is abundantly covered with blooms from early May to early June. The bush owes its name to its leaves, which display stunning scarlet colour in the autumn, delighting any sized garden.

This tree brings round the year interest lasting into late autumn. The stunning pink blossoms in spring, compliment the new purple, glossy, ovate leaves. The leaves turn a purple-green colour in summer, before they produce an impressive display of rich scarlet and purple tints in autumn. The small purple crab fruits, which appear in autumn, last longer into winters even after the leaves have fallen.

The tree should be planted in a nutrient-rich, loose soil, which should be kept moist. It prefers the best possible full sun. However, it is quite undemanding and will also thrive very well even in average garden soils and partial shade.

The ornamental apple Scarlett is very frost hardy, undemanding and easy to clean. It is resistant to frost and scab. Although it does not require pruning, you can improve its shape by removing dead branches. It is also an important food source for birds, as its fruits last into the winter.

Malus toringo Scarlett is a valuable plant for gardens, parks, estate greenery, as well as for large containers. It is suitable in parks, wide streets and as large flowering hedges. Its fruits are attracted by finches, spars and sparrows.
