Description
Mr Fothergill’s Cucumber (Gherkin) Cornichon De Paris Seeds, Outdoor variety, perfect for pickling. Pick fruits when up to 5cm (2”) long for sweetest flavour.
Sow indoors for surest results, 0.5cm deep, edge down, in small pots of compost. Water well and place in a warm position. A temperature of 20-25°C. is ideal. Keep moist. Seedlings usually appear in 7-21 days. When plants have developed 3 or 4 leaves, transplant to larger pots and grow on in cooler, but not cold conditions. Plant out in large pots, growing bags or a greenhouse border. Provide support and train plants up canes, strings or netting. Stop lateral growth two leaves past each fruit. Pinch out growing tips when they reach the roof. Or sow outdoors for ease, where they are to crop, directly into finely prepared soil. Allow 60cm between rows. For best results feed regularly when fruits begin to set.
