Description
Dramatic, fast-growing, and totally different. Musa basjoo, the Japanese Banana, boasts towering paddle-shaped leaves and bold form. This plant is a real statement-maker in any garden!
Grown for its tropical style, Musa basjoo is ideal for bringing height, movement and exotic charm to patios, courtyards and borders. Whether you tuck it into a jungle-style border or grow it in a large pot near your seating area, it immediately creates atmosphere.
Despite its exotic appearance, it’s hardy down to around -6C if protected with fleece across winter. That means it can live outside all year in most gardens, bouncing back stronger each spring. The more heat and sunshine it gets, the faster it grows, so give it a sunny, sheltered spot and it’ll reward you handsomely.
Even in smaller gardens, just one plant can make a huge difference. With some food and regular watering in summer, you’ll see new leaves unfurling every few days.
Supplied as an established plant, roughly 30cm tall, in a 9cm pot, ready to plant.
Please note: This Banana Plant will not produce edible produce when grown in the UK. Although a close cousin to commercial bananas, the fruit will not grow in UK climates.
