Description
Sow the seeds on moist soil at a depth of 12-15mm, 8-10 weeks before the last frost.
Start the seeds indoors in trays or directly into the garden once the temperature is above 10c.
Water as necessary and the seeds should germinate between 14-21 days.
Space the plants between 5-10cm apart.
For spring onions, harvest these when you are thinning your plants.
For salad onions, harvest these around 10-12 weeks after sowing or when they reach the desired size.
Alternatively, leave to mature for an all-purpose onion. Harvest when the tops start to yellow and fall over.
