Description
Native to the arid regions of southern USA, Opuntia gosseliniana is a twist on the classic prickly pear. This Opuntia changes its colouration depending on the growth conditions; in shadier, damper conditions it produces a greyish blue colouration, whereas bright light and drought result in the production of vibrant purple pigmentation which reduces damage from the harsh desert sun. This feature results in a prickly pear with pads displaying a range of blue and purple tones, which can change throughout the year.
