Opuntia undulata

Description

Native to Mexico, Opuntia undulata grows large green-blue segments, distinctly fleshy and flat but uniquely rippled along the edges. Short spines grown amongst sharp bristled tufts from the numerous areoles. Yellow blooms are followed by chunky green or purple-red fruit during the summer months.

WATERING

Water thoroughly and regularly when soil is 100% dry during the spring/summer months. Refrain from watering during the winter months.

Use a cactus fertiliser 3 times between March – November.

REPOTTING

This species can live in the same pot for several years. Repotting may only be necessary once every 2-3 years (or longer), once roots begin to protrude out of the drainage holes. Use a well draining cactus compost, adding extra drainage medium such as perlite, pumice or grit.
