Description
Pear Doyenne du Comice are the perfect small trees for a small garden. They flourish planted in the ground but also grow well as patio fruit trees in pots. This pear tree variety is delivered as a 4ft – 5ft tree. These fruit trees may have a compact growing habit but they make a big impact.
In spring, the branches are covered in an abundance of pure white flowers through April and May. These give way to developing fruits that are ready to harvest from September. The pears themselves are golden-green in colour and are tinged with pink as they ripen.
Doyenne du Comice pears are well-known for their full, sweet flavour. They can feel quite heavy due to their high water content, which contributes to the melt-in-the-mouth texture of the juicy flesh. This pear cultivar is suitable for cooking in desserts but can also be enjoyed fresh from the fruit tree.
These pear trees are easy to grow and don’t demand much attention to thrive. These fruit trees are hardy against cold winter temperatures and only need watered during particularly dry spells. Prune in winter to remove any dead or damaged branches before the tree bursts back into life in spring.
