Description
Pink Lily of the Valley is a go-to for fast, feel-good colour in shade. Tiny, nodding bells open in April and May and release a sweet perfume that instantly says cottage garden. The effect is delicate yet surprisingly impactful, especially when you plant a small drift where you pass each day.
This is a compact woodland perennial that earns its place. Reaching about 20cm tall, it sits neatly at the front of borders, threads through gaps beneath shrubs and trees, and looks refined in containers where you can enjoy the scent at close quarters.
It flowers in that late spring window when many gardens dip after the tulips. Plant a cluster and you will have a soft pink lift just when you want it. Over time, the pips knit together, naturalising into a scented patch that returns each year a little fuller and more satisfying.
Gentle, generally trouble-free plants that suit busy gardeners. Once established, it needs very little attention, yet it continues to deliver fragrance, colour and a cool woodland mood that calms the whole scene. Indoors, short stems make charming posies that bring the fragrance to the kitchen table without overwhelming.
Supplied as five pips, ready to plant. Foliage will die back naturally in winter, before erupting into fresh growth come spring.
Please note: All parts are toxic if eaten and sap may irritate skin. Handle with care and keep away from pets and children.
