Description

The native range of this caudiciform tree is Mexico to Nicaragua, Caribbean, where it is found growing in dry and rocky habitats. With a fast growth rate it can reach to 18 metres tall in the wild. In cultivation it’s much more likely to reach heights of 6 metres, although still an impressive feat. Its smooth trunk is marbled with bright green and grey, creating an array of patterns all across its surface, appearing almost like stretch marks due to its vigorous growth. Glossy green and palmately compound leaves cluster the branches during the growing season, emerging first in a shiny burgundy shade then maturing into more muted green tones. Deciduous in nature, the leaves will fall for the dormant season of winter and grow back in spring.

WATERING

In S/S water regularly but allow for 100% of the soil to dry before watering. During the winter months while the plant goes dormant and sheds its foliage refrain from watering. Gradually increase watering in spring or when temperatures rise.
