Description

Sarracenia Hans, a striking carnivorous hybrid with a truly wild charm. Unlike many tall and upright pitcher plants, Hans is a compact cultivar derived from Sarracenia purpurea var. venosaa hardy, ground-hugging species known for its stout, beautifully veined pitchers and tolerance to colder climates.

Sarracenia Hans inherits the robust, low-growing shape of its parent but stands out with particularly vivid red tones and attractively flared pitcher hoods that create a dramatic, almost otherworldly look. The open, squat pitchers collect rainwater and use it to trap insects naturallyno snap traps here, just clever passive hunting. Its a fascinating plant to observe and an easy one to live with.

This hybrid is ideal for growing on a bright patio, in an outdoor planter, or on a sunny windowsill. It thrives in full sun and moist, acidic soiluse a mix of peat and perlite or sandand must be watered with rainwater or distilled water to avoid mineral damage. Theres no need for fertiliser, as the plant gets all it needs from the insects it catches. In winter, it enters a natural dormancy, shedding some leaves and slowing growth before returning with new vigour in spring.
