Thalictrum ‘Elin’

If you are wanting something tall, for the back of a border, but with colour, interest and quite a bit of drama—then look no further than Thalictrum ‘Elin’. This stunning, vigorous perennial is one of the tallest, too. It can shoot up to 210-270cm, and higher! Even without flowers, it’s a striking plant, producing upright, purple-tinged stems which contrast with the blue-green lobed leaves.

In summer, soft-lavender flowers, with cream-yellow stamens, emerge from attractive, oval-shaped purple buds. These are a wonderful complement to the leaves, and most people really like to get up close, to take a detailed look! Bees and other pollinating insects will be happy you’ve chosen this Dutch-raised plant, too!

Ideally, Thalictrum ‘Elin’ will be grown in a woodland garden, however it does just as well in a moist, sunny border. Despite being a lofty giant of a plant, Thalictrum ‘Elin’ seldom needs staking. It is such a good garden plant, that the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM). Oh, and this rue makes a superb and eye-catching cut flower, too!
