Sow indoors into moist, well-drained seed compost, covering the seeds lightly.
Place in a propagator at 18-21 c in the dark.
Germination can be slow and erratic, usually taking 15-90 days.
Keep the compost lightly watered, watering from the bottom only.
Once seedlings appear, remove the cover to prevent damping-off and move to a cooler spot, such as a windowsill, around 15 °C.
When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 8cm pots.
After the risk of frost has passed, harden off and acclimatise the seedlings.
Plant out 20cm apart in a sunny location.
