Description
Oxo-Biodegradable Plastic is conventional plastic infused with a catalyst during the manufacturing process. This modified plastic is then used to create various products such as carrier bags, produce or courier bags, straws, and other items with a short lifespan or intended for single use. The term oxo-biodegradable reflects the plastics inherent ability to biodegrade.
The degradation process, as elucidated by Professor Ignacy Jakubowicz, a distinguished polymer scientist with over 20 years of research on Oxo-Biodegradable Plastic, involves more than mere fragmentation. It entails a complete transformation of the material, shifting from a high molecular weight polymer to monomeric and oligomeric fragments. Moreover, it transforms hydrocarbon molecules into oxygen-containing molecules that can be assimilated through natural biological processes.
