Description
Allium ‘Pink Jewel’ is the soft-spoken showstopper every garden can use. The flower heads are neat, rounded domes, made from hundreds of tiny, rose-pink stars, each with a pretty green eye. They appear from late spring into early summer on straight, sturdy stems, so you get height and poise without the planting feeling heavy.
Plant and forget is a bold claim, but with alliums it is close to the truth. Good drainage, a sunny position and you are away. Year after year, the bulbs slip up through your planting, add colour and structure, then retreat discreetly as summer moves on.
‘Pink Jewel’ is also a team player. In mixed borders it partners beautifully with hardy geraniums, salvias, catmint and roses, where those pink spheres stitch planting together and repeat the colour through the scheme. In containers, three bulbs in a pot make a smart, modern accent.
Wildlife wins too. The flowers are rich in nectar and draw bees and butterflies the moment they open, so the display hums with life as well as colour. Indoors, the strong stems and dense heads give long-lasting cut flowers that hold their shape and tone.
