Dogwood

Description

Deciduous native hedgerow shrub. Good for underplanting and in mixed hedges. Green stems flushed red which provide colour in winter. Rich autumn colouring. Clusters of small white, four petalled, white flowers in June followed by small black berries which provide food for mammals and birds. Any soil but very chalk tolerant and thrives in a damp position. Will make a good informal hedge. For this purpose plant 60cm (2ft) apart.
