Description
Very frost hardy, long-lived, fast growing, native, evergreen conifer with long, needle like, soft grey-green, stout, twisted leaves. Flaky red-brown or orange bark in the upper crown, purple-grey at the base. Very attractive pine with foliage contrasting with the colourful bark. Flowers in late spring or early summer, followed by slim, egg-shaped cones, green at first, ripening to brown, up to 8 cm long. Tolerant of exposed, but not maritime positions. Any soil including poor infertile soil.
