Description
Caution: Portulaca seeds are tiny like dust and packets need to be opened with care.
Sow seeds thinly from spring onwards in well-drained seed compost.
Lightly press onto the surface do not cover, as light aids germination.
Keep at 20c and germination will occur between 10-21 days.
Once large enough to handle, thin or prick them out into small pots or trays.
Gradually acclimatise seedlings to outdoor conditions before planting out after the last frost.
Plant in a sunny, well-drained position at 30cm apart.
Allow the soil to dry out between watering, as Portulaca is drought-tolerant once established.
Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming throughout the summer.
It will self-seed so deadhead to prevent this.
