June is a critical month for sowing to ensure harvesting through to late autumn, beds are best replenished by twisting out spent plants and replanting without adding new compost. Its often said that you cant germinate lettuce under cover in summer, because its too hot for that however, this is not true. I have always found that germination and growth is very reliable, as long as you keep newly sown trays out of sunlight for the first four days.
